There's some charm to Dan Le Betard's show (which is co-hosted with the sportswriter's father). I knew Stan Isaacs, the grandfather, long before I knew Stan Isaacs, the sportswriter. Now Adams has come out with a book. Directed by James Mangold of 310 to Yuma fame and written by Mark Bomback, it should have been a six hour version of Ford's Bascombe novels, titled “The Sportswriter”. The interviews with some of the sports writers and players were very informative about how the evolution of the structure of professional came about in the 70's. Around the Horn is a surprisingly tolerable -- if inanely still scored -- debate show without some of its more controversial panelists. The Winston-Salem Journal has always been very loyal to the Dash. The comedian wrote for the Rocky Mountain News as a sportwriter for years and recently has been making a living as a comedian. Sports editor Dave Zirin of The Nation magazine responds to the Boston Marathon bombings and discusses the race's historic significance. Sam Adams is a bit of a local celebrity. And no matter how much the propaganda masters at FSD, Lynn Henning, or any other homer sportswriter tells us differently, any idiot can see that Valverde is an accident waiting to happen on the mound. His grandson, David, was my best childhood friend. Award-winning sports columnist and author Terry Pluto will share his thoughts on sports and faith at Stow Presbyterian Church on Feb. Jack Klugman, best known as the curmudgeonly slob in "The Odd Couple" and the gruff-yet-idealistic coroner of "Quincy, M.E." died Monday at the age of 90. The Journal brings a writer to every Dash home game, and it is a pleasure working with all of their staff writers.
